Pike Fishing Loch Ken, Castle Douglas, Dumfries and Gallowoway, Scotland.
Loch Ken in Scotland is probably one of the best pike fishing waters I have ever fished. Armed with a selection of pike dead baits and accompanied with a good bunch of lads was the perfect combination for an excellent pike fishing weekend. I was always looking forward to fishing Loch Ken because I love Scotland and it was the first time I've ever fished a water of this size. After driving around the Loch looking for a suitable place to accommodate the six of us, we stumbled on a caravan park which backed on to the Loch, it was perfect… £2.00 per day for the fishing and a fiver for pitching you’re biv. I was fishing next to Paul. Billy, Nick, Johnny and Wayne were further round the corner. As dusk began to fall I had a screamer, a small jack pike which had foul hooked itself on my popped up dead bait, ok it never picked my bait up but it was welcomed as there was £60.00 riding on the biggest fish of the weekend, nobody else had caught, not in our group anyway. The following morning Paul landed a nice looking pike which blew my fish out of the window… Now Paul was in the money as the others in the group had all caught but again only small Jacks. Paul taught me a lot about pike fishing this weekend, especially trace making so I thank you for that, also thanks for the picture. (Click any image to enlarge)

Later that afternoon I had a single pip on my middle rod which dropped the line clip from the open bail arm, I picked the rod up and waited, line started to come off so I wound down and struck. At first I thought it was stuck on the bottom until I felt the pike turn and take line from my clutch, I shouted over to Paul and said… Have you seen this, it’s a 20 at least, Paul came round as everyone else did in the area. After a stunning fight we weighed the fish at 19.5lb which made me very happy to say the least.
The
caravan/camping site we stayed at had excellent facilities
along with a friendly atmosphere, the owners took the time
to come and chat with you which is a good personal touch
considering the rush, rush life styles we all lead these
days.
I will defiantly be coming
back to Loch Ken in the future but first I want to fish Auchenreoch Loch which is slightly
closer than Loch Ken, the pike fishing is equally as good.
we
will be fishing in Scotland again soon, only
this time we are fishing Loch Lomond, check back soon for more
information, pictures and video footage of fish catching action. Join our forum for more info and pictures on Loch Ken
