I'm going to start this bait section off with a bait which is widely
used in the carp fishing fraternity and these are particles.
Particle baits are a very good baits for fishing especially carp
fishing, hence the reason why manufactures are making a killing
selling them to people like us.
To Soak your particles. Read the manufactures instructions.
Carp can be a
very hard fish to catch especially if you are targeting specimen carp, therefore carp anglers often need
to change the way they think by using different methods
and tactics to help get the carp to their nets. By adding different flavours and additives
to your bait mix can enhance your chances don't be afraid to
try different flavours either. Particles baits are usually
spodded out and accurately positioned around a marker
float, then by adding a favoured boilie or other choice
of bait can be cast over the particles which you have
spodded out. A Good Tip. Try adding maggots to
your particle mixes.
Ok, we now
know how long to soak and cook our particle baits. Lets look at some other baits which are very good for
catching carp, worms. Worms are probably one of the best fish baits you can
use fish love um and there free. There are many different ways you can fish with worms, you
can chop them up which makes an excellent fish
attractant, you can fish with them singular or you can
use bulk load like I have in the picture below.

What I'm doing
here is loading my baiting needle with quite a
lot of worms ready to load on to my hair rig. Using
this method will not only catch large carp but
also cat fish, barbel, chub, bream and pike. So
the next time you're carp fishing instead of
using a boilie try one of these, you won't be
disappointed. It works for me. You can also use
this method with the Polaris float. |
Top tip:
Using a PVA bags when fishing for carp can be very advantageous to your session you can add small trout pellets or boilies to the bag and by doing so enhance your chances of a catch.
Did you know?
Trout pellets are very good baits for carp, when you think about it most carp in our fisheries have all been brought up on trout pellets therefore trout pellets are the carps most natural bait. There are many different ways of preparing and presenting your pellets, here’s a break down on one of my present methods.
-
Empty pellets in bait mixing pan (8/10mm) and add hot but not boiling water.
-
Leave to soak for aprox 3mins then mix it all up till you get a smooth texture.
-
Add a couple of raw eggs and mix in until you have a putty like consistency
-
Once this is achieved, you can begin to make your trout pellet sandwiches.
-
Spread the pellet mixture, about an inch thick over a slice of bread and place another slice on top of the first, squash it all together and you have an irresistible offering that carp can’t refuse. Once you’re on the bank you can mould a piece of your sandwich round your hook and cast with confidence, your bait won’t come off either, always make sure your hook is exposed otherwise you could lose fish. When I use this method of bait presentation I find the margins an excellent place to present the bait, try it your spools are sure to spin.
Killer bait mix!
There are a million and one different mixes you can make boilies with, once you have found an ingredient you like stick with it, catching carp is one thing but catching on one of your home mades is even better. Below you will find a recipe which I have used in the past. First of all you will need the following utensils, make sure you ask the wife first!
-
Mixing bowl
-
Whisk.
-
A large saucepan.
-
A chip pan frying basket.
-
5ml of caviar flavour.
-
5ml of salmon elite flavour.
-
10 drops of n-butric acid.
-
10ml per egg of trigger liquid.
-
1 kilo of trigger base mix.
Place 10 eggs in a large mixing bowl and whisk until smooth, add your caviar, salmon elite and trigger liquid to the now whisked eggs and stir in well. Add approximately1/2 of your trigger base mix to your eggs and mix it all together, once you have done this leave it to stand for 5 minutes to let the base mix soak the eggs up. Now it's time to to get your hands sticky, add the rest of the contents of your base mix and knead it until it is like a putty consistency, once this is achieved you can start to roll you Boilies either by hand or by a boilie rolling table. Now you have rolled all your Boilies, you need to place them in boiling water to do this I would recommend you use a chip pan basket, it's easy and safer. Do not over fill the basket, try placing about 20 Boilies in at first to see how you go on this of course depends on the size of your basket. I usually leave my boilies to boil for about a minute and half, this makes the boilie quite soft and helps to release the flavour more quickly, Note the longer you boil the boilies the harder they will get. Below is a picture of the finished product they smell great and work really well.
I rolled these baits by hand then after realising how much work actually went in to rolling boilies I decided to invest in a rolling table. Rolling tables can be purchased from any good tackle stockiest for around £25.00.
