Coarse Fishing Northwest:

The Dingle Lodge is by far my favourite-

  • It holds most types of fish and of good sizes.
  • The Dingle is close to home which means much less traveling and more time fishing.OK- The Dingle is a hike across a field and the hill you have to walk up when your done is a nightmare but if you get the fish biting on the day you're in for a treat and all that seems irelivent.
  • It's also free fishing provided you are in receipt of a Bolton Anglers permit.

Equipment used:

  • 1x Diawa 13ft match rod
  • 1x Shimano match reel
  • 2lb main line 1.5lb bottom.
  • Size 20s barbless spade end hooks.
  • Rod rest
  • Landing net.
  • Fish mat
  • Discorgoure
  • Keep net
  • And a box to sit on.

The rigs:
I started off using the polaris float but found it a little to heavy for the type of fish I was catching , the standard waggler float used wasn't anything special either, just a float heavy enough to get me out without giving me too much trouble when casting in the wind. After trying the 'laying on' method at close and long ranges without much success, I tried fishing straight down just on the bottom, here's the rig I used and how its set up.

Another fishing waggler

Fishing was good using that method but found the rig below much more consistent even though it involved fishing 18 inches over depth. How did I detect the bites using the rig below you may ask? That's what I asked myself too but I did and what great bites they were too (I did get quite a few on the drop) and those bites where hard to detect and a discorgoure was needed on some occasions

Waggler float

Some anglers would argue that, rather than fish the method above surly I'd be better off using a swim or cage feeder? I tried that too but the float method was far superior.

Catching bream in Bolton.

The Baits:
I nearly always used maggot fished over halibut flavored ground bait and hemp seed except for the odd occasion where worm was used, worm seemed to attract small perch on this venue.

Bream fishing in Bolton

OK- I've shown you a couple of rigs that will help you catch bream and tench, now lets have a look at some other fishing rigs that will catch you lots of silver fish on this prolific fishing water in Bolton.
