Coarse Fishing Northwest:
After several weeks of using a match rod it wasn't long before I was contemplating a fishing pole. Pole fishing is something I've never carried out except for once which was about 10 years ago and then I only tried it for one session, ended up selling that! Mick gave me a pole early last year after he purchased a new one
but without sounding un-greatful, it was far to heavy to sit and hold all day. This urged me to ask my brother Ste if I could use his, he agreed and what a difference it made to my fishing, don't get me wrong, I'm not being 'tight' by not purchasing a pole of my own, its just that I wanted to ensure good use of it, £600.00 is a lot of money to be sat in a bag.
Trying different baits:
A friend of mine mentioned using soft pellets as bait, I was a little reluctant to use these because once you've caught fish with a particular bait your confident in, its pretty hard to change to something you might not get a bite on. Anyway, these pellets could be mould to any shape or size and are soft enough to wrap around other baits like small boilies if you desire. In the picture below are two different types of pellets, to the left are the soft pellets which were used as hook baits and the pellets on the right are high octain pellets which break down quickly making an irresistable attractant on the bottom.
Here's the pole rig I used.
This rig was good, it worked well and caught me quite a few good nets of fish.
Although the above rig helped me catch fish, the rig which was used to fish over depth was much better, when fishing 18" over depth the bream/ tench were more prone to take the bait than other species like roach and skimmers.
