Some of you will know that I have recently
decided to limit my carp fishing outings so I can concentrate more
on river/general feeder fishing. Last week we made arrangements to
visit Cudmore Fishery, we could have gone else where but we chose
Cudmore because it stocks lots of barbel, (nothing massive mind) and
after last weeks visit to Bradshaw Fishery, we was looking to get
even more 'rod bending action'.
It was 6am, cold, windy and at times wet but the majority of the day
was sound as far as fishing goes... Our Adam hit in to a fish right
from the outset but after that things went quite until around 8am
where our Ste landed a carp of 8lb, I caught a couple of chub then
it would go quite again... Our Adam caught the best fish of the day,
here's a few pictures which we took.
Pictured below are myself, Adam and my brother

We enjoyed ourselves at Cudmore but thought
perhaps we would have caught more and bigger fish than we actually
did but over all we were happy with our catches... (Adam was anyway)
Cudmore 2003
Ged
and I had a brilliant time at Browning Cudmore, although the biggest
carp we caught was only 12lb and the
smallest being 2lb the fun we had bringing
them in was second to none. In all we caught eleven fish in a
36 hour session. These include nine carp, a Barbel of 5lb and a chub
at around 21b which gave me a single
toner, here's a couple of the pictures
we took whilst we where fishing at Cudmore on Tara.
Most of the carp we caught were of this
size, I think we left it a little late in the year, the carp are
showing definite signs of slowing down. Cudmore's Tara lake holds
carp to 36 lb and it is match fished on a regular basis, you can
find the results of the machstatistics
every week in the Angling Times, some of the matches are won with
excess of 150 lb in weight. When the bigger fish are not feeding the
little fellows take advantage of the situation and obviously eat
what ever they can.
We tried several different types
of baits including pellet, luncheon meat and Frank Clarks own mixed
fruit Boilies and the big one still didn't come,
not to worry though because we are going to go back to try our luck
again. If we caught the big one every time we went fishing it would
be boring don't you think.
Here are some more pictures we took whilst we were at Cudmore, the weather didn't help any as it was
freezing. Even though the weather was really cold it didn't stop other anglers from fishing.
If you look at the bottom picture you can see anglers on the far bank, it was
like that all round the lake most of Cudmore waters get a lot
of angling pressure and I think Franks introduction to Barbless hooks is a
great start to improving the condition of the fish.... Well done Frank!
I caught the fish in the picture above when things had thawed out a little,
it looks like a completely different day doesn't it?
The fish gave me a single toner believe it or not, I thought I was well into a big one.
I showed the camera the size of its mouth and you could have put a
golf ball in it. LOL.
Below is a picture of the island facing peg
number 18 at Cudmore, I stayed well clear of this and stuck to open
water because of the cold weather conditions. Its, also
quite shallow near the Island and I
was pretty sure the fish would be in deeper water. If I was to fish Browning Cudmore
again I would take a pole with me. (I hate those things!) this way you
can pin point the carp. There was a lad who we met whilst fishing called Chris
Jones and he was using a pole and had some really good results in just a 5 hour
session.
Ged caught the most fish on this session and to be honest with you he deserved to, before coming to Browning Cudmore
Ged had gone through a bit of a dry net session (Two weeks to be exact) so you can imagine how pleased he was.
Cudmore Fisheries is a top venue and has eleven fishable waters, its grounds are very tidy thanks to the local lads who come round and
collect your rubbish... I think they get free fishing for doing that.
Cudmore has recently introduced a ban on Barbed hooks and quite rightly two, some of the fishes mouths are in poor
condition but judging by the amount of angling traffic that comes here I suppose the introduction of
barbless hooks is a good way of tackling the problem.
Cudmore has excellent facilities, disability access is good and it also has secure parking,
the gates are locked from 10.30 pm till 7.00 am.
You can also get yourself a cooked breakfast from the lodge which is very clean and tidy. ( prices around £4.50).
Don't worry! If you forget your bait, there's no problem Frank has a
selection of baits including Boilies and pellets and he evenstocks luncheon meat already cut to size.
