Here's a tidy little rig which I quite often use
when dead-bait fishing for pike, its low resistant properties can
fool even the wariest of pike. You can also use a bullet weight
which serves exactly the same purpose only the one below will run
much more free when a take occurs. Here's how its done...
1) I use a curtain ring connected to a 1¼ oz bomb
which is attached and tied with 8lb monofilament line, the line is
then covered with rubber tubing for a neater presentation.
2) Next you need to thread the braided mainline
through the curtain ring. Got that? easy in it!
You now need to add a ¼" pollyball on the the
braid line, this stops the curtain ring interfering with the
swivel/trace when the rig is complete.
4) Simply add a small plastic or rubber bead on
to your mainline, I prefer to use plastic beads because they are
much easier to thread on your line, especially when using braid.
5) If you like at this stage, you can add
another bead to the mainline but its not necessary, I use the
extra one just to give a little distance between the large
polyball and the trace swivel. (Its a confidence thing).
6) All you have to do now is tie the
mainline to the wire trace. Remember! Never use a half blood
knot when tying braid to a wire trace, it can slip and come
un-done under pressure. A Grinner,
Palomar or a full blood knot will suffice.
Let me know if you catch using this rig,
happy fishing.
