The Dingle Lodge:

Out of all the waters Bolton Anglers have to offer on its Permit the Dingle Lodge is by far my favourite. It’s also a water I’ve fished from a young age however it’s only this last few years where I’ve actually started to concentrate on not only the carp it stocks but also other coarse fish such as tench, perch and roach. The Dingle is not an easy water to fish by anyone’s standards regardless of what you’re fishing for and the walk there and back is a bloody nightmare to say the least, travel light if you can.

The Dingle Lodge

The Dingle is located between Little Lever and Radcliffe, its set in the middle of a Farmers field with the Manchester, Bolton & Bury canal running along one side. The water holds sloping banks and in some parts can make fishing uncomfortable but over the years pegs have been made by anglers and if you’re fit these pegs are quite easy to access.

As with any water, getting the bait right on the day can be the most difficult decision you will make, my advice would be to stick with what you’re confident in, although plastic baits have worked quite well for me in the past, boilies are equally as good on the day. Tempting the carp away from the natural food the Dingle holds can be quite difficult therefore, using anything different to what other anglers use can be good tactics especially in the colder months. The Dingle holds some great looking carp, bream, roach, tench and perch and in the early 80’s a world record bream came from this water weighing a little over 15lb, which shows the quality fish that are stocked in there.

And below is the 'hill' you have to walk up after your fishing, see what I mean about travelling light.

Hot Fishing Spots:
Fishing can be very good all round this venue however I tend to fish from where the picture was taken (left above) as this is a really good place for pike which again I fish for when on this venue, the pike I believe go up to 28lb, carp 25+ and has some very nice bream stocked as well.

Best Baits:
When fishing for pike I would recommend you used either Sardine, Smelt, Lamprey or Mackerel tail, using any of the said baits can be very productive on this water. For other species try feeders for the bream, maggot, caster, worm and bread for all other types of fish, carp will take boilies and small PVA bags but again don't over do it.

Disability Access:
Disability access is not to dandy and when wet can be very muddy

Car Parking:
There is ample car parking on Churchill Drive, Little Lever, fishermen tend to leave cars on the roadside.

Where to find Dingle Lodge:
The Dingle can be found using your Manchester A-Z on page 48 grid reference C4 just follow the road and you will see a sign on the right hand side saying public foot path, park your car anywhere round here and just walk over the fields.

The all important prices.
Dingle Lodge comes under rule of Bolton anglers and cost £22.00 per year and is worth every penny, go on get yourself over here and give it a try.
