| How To Make A
Hair Rig For Carp Fishing:
Hair rigged baits are very popular amongst specimen anglers because of
the hassle free properties the knotless knot possesses, In the eighties
we used pen springs as hairs whipped to the shank of the hook, that was
well before I had ever heard of the knotless knot. However when carrying
out the following procedure it is a good idea to attach the boilie to
the hook link before the hook is added, by doing this you can measure
the exact distance for the preferred hair in relation to the size of
the bait you are about to use.
To make the following rig you will need a Boilie needle,
scissors, your preferred length of mono/braid, boilie stops, swivel and
last but not least the hook.
First of all take your hook link and create a loop at
the bottom as I have below, tie a over hand knot or shoe lace knot as
I call them so you have a loop with a knot attached. At this stage
you may wish to snip off the little tail, I normally leave it until I'm
ready for mounting the boilie.
Take your boilie pin and pierce the boilie taking great
care not to stab yourself in the hand, a good tip is to gently twist
your baiting needle whilst applying a small amount of pressure on the
way through.
Once your boilie is mounted on the bait needle, using
the barb gently pull the hook link through the boilie. (pictured below)
At this stage you may add your boilie stop to the loop
and trim the excess off with sharp scissors, again taking care not to
snip the loop accidentally.
Ok, now you have your boilie attached to your hook
link, it's time to add the hook of your choice. Thread your hook link through your hook
(below). Measure the required distance you prefer your hair to be
as I have in the picture below.
You now need to wrap the line around the hook shank at
least 7 times, ensuring you travel down the shank then back to the top
near the hooks eye pictured below.
Thread the line back through the eye of
the hook and pull it all the way up.
To make things look a little neater you may wish to add
some silicone tubing to the hook link as I have in the picture
below.
Thread the silicone tube over the hook and make sure the
eye is hidden by the silicone, you can now add
the swivel and tie it on using your preferred knot.
Once you have tied the knot on the swivel swivel before pulling the knot
tight add a little saliva to it, this will help the knot
slide home and decrease the chances of any friction causing damage to
the hook link. Pictured below right is the finished product, I hope you
catch a massive fish good luck and spinning spools.
