When Jed
and I decided to do a four day carp fishing session at Selby Three
Lakes in North Yorkshire (2001), we both knew we would be in for a tough
time. Although there's a good stock of carp in the venue we
had our work cut out. Selby three lakes is full of features
including gravelbars, clear patches,
islands and lily pads. No
carp! Never the less we both enjoyed
ourselves and like every other carp angler, when he's had a dry net
session he comes away with a head full of knowledge ready for the
next visit.
I took this picture on
the day we arrived, the day after, all the pegs round this section of
lake where took up which didn't help us any. To the left of the
picture above there is a channel and a point to fish too, at one
stage I had both these areas covered and we still struggled. We
thought the venue to be very nice but rather noisy due to the
concrete works opposite, there's also a very busy main road(A1041) which runs along side the complex.
Selby three lakes is a lovely place and we will be
visiting again in the future, who knows, maybe next time eh! There
are quite a number of rules at the venue so before visiting its best
to visit their website and have a look.
This is us lot above discussing the last few days we have spent at Selby.
Different baits and different tactics next time!
One thing Jed and I was talking about was using natural baits like worm or
maggot, perhaps I will leave the
Boilies at home next time.
The feeling of tranquillity is all around us, you can
imagine the birds tweeting and the sudden splashes in the
water when the carp come to the surface.
This is another picture taken from outside my Bivvy but from a different angle,
there's a gravel bar which runs from the right of the picture towards the Island as you look at it.
Note the angler on the other side, imagine the pressure around this part of the lake.
We counted 10 anglers which amounted to 30 lines around the section of lake we
fished... That's pressure in it!
