First of all I would like to congratulate the current owners of Wyreside Fisheries for all their hard work which has been put into this fishery of late. It’s quite sometime since I last visited this particular venue and the work which has been carried out over the years has transformed an ‘ordinary’ fishery into a spectacular, picturesque, action packed venue.
The picture below shows the layout and peg numbers of the Fishery, I choose peg number 2.
I was aware this venue held cat fish so I thought it would be wise to try for one, just in front of me but to the left, there was a small lily bed, this was my spot. The other two rods where tucked up tight to the island and under the over hanging tree.

After 24 hours without a fish I decided to bring my rods in only to find one without bait and another attached to a rather large twig. I was furious, what a waste of time. I re-baited and cast back out, shortly afterwards I had a run, what ever it was it was big but my hook-link (15lb flora carbon) 'ebay special' snapped clean, I was gutted to say the very least, I quickly made up another rig and cast it back out. After I’d got over the shock of losing the fish my right hand rod which was tight under an over hanging tree ‘rang the tune of joy’. Mary Poppins fellers, I couldn’t believe it, I was in at last, OK it’s not the biggest fish in the world but for me, it’s the first scaled mirror carp I’ve caught and one which will always be remembered.
After I caught this fish I decided to re-bait all my rods ready for the last 18 hours of the session. I sat and waited but it never happened and before I knew it, it was morning and time to go.
I caught this little fellar too.
